Zion Natl. Park: Canyon of Light
  November 4-9, 2012

   Tim Cooper & Doug Johnson

"I have been fortunate to participate in two workshops with Tim Cooper. Additionally, I purchased Tim's DVDs. I am certain that I have learned more about photography (from how to set up my tripod to how and why to manage my depth of field and how to deal with light, color, contrast and cropping) from Tim Cooper than any other place in my sixty years of shutter snapping. Tim is an excellent photographer and teacher of photography. He's professional, down-to-earth and easy to understand."

THE WORKSHOP:
Zion National Park is one of the few places where you can make great photographs morning, noon and night. Due to the short days and ample shooting opportunities, this workshop will focus on field shooting and classroom critique. Tim and Doug will forgo their traditional lectures to spend more time out in the field behind the camera. Although this workshop has fewer lectures, ample time in the field allows them to spend quality time with each student as you work through both composition and exposure. The daily critiques are also extremely helpful and are routinely hailed to be the most valuable learning experience of the week.

Creating the right atmosphere is essential to any experience. Tim and Doug like to keep it relaxed and light so the student feels comfortable no matter their skill. Mix in humor, camaraderie, encouragement, and like minded folks and you have a perfect recipe for a memorable vacation. The goal of the workshop is to have a great time while learning. The fact that you leave with spectacular photos of one Americas greatest parks is icing on the cake. Whether you are an intermediate or advanced photographer you'll benefit from the one on one time in the field, insightful critiques and your own personal tour guides to the wonders of Zion National Park.

THE PARK:
Of all the Parks, Zion National Park is Tim's favorite. He first visited in 1993, and has been back at least once a year ever since. Imagine sheer, 2000 ft, brilliant orange canyon walls towering over the rusted reds and pure yellow of the late Autumn foliage all capped by clear azure blue skies and you begin to get the picture. Zion provides never ending photographic possibilities from intimate fallen leaves on water washed sand patterns, to the filigree pattern of the valley Cottonwood trees, to the intense red glow of the towering mountain tops at sunset. Zion is masterpiece of erosion, color and light. In keeping with the natural forces that define Zion, the group takes a day trip to Antelope Canyon, one of the most awe-inspiring Slot Canyons of Southwest. Join Tim and Doug in November to take advantage of one of the most magnificent places on earth!
